Coaches are the greenest vehicles on UK Roads!

Green Logo Did you know that coaches are among the cleanest and greenest vehicles on Britain’s roads and they leave the smallest carbon footprint of any transport method?

Coach holidays are not just fun, affordable and stress-free; they are one of the greenest holiday transport methods.

A coach can travel 146,000 passenger-kilometres for every tonne of CO2 emitted, whereas a car can only travel 26,000 passenger-kilometres, meaning that CO2 emissions from coaches are a staggering 6 times lower than car travel per passenger-kilometre. Coach travel emissions are also 1.5 times lower than rail travel and 5 times lower than air travel per passenger-kilometre.

A 15% increase in coach passenger journeys by British people each year could lead to approximately 47 million fewer cars on the road, saving over a quarter of a million tonnes of carbon dioxide and significantly reducing congestion on our roads. Just one full coach could remove 50 cars from Britain’s roads and remove a mile of congestion!

Coaches are part of the solution to the problem of climate change and choosing a Just Go! Holidays by coach is not just convenient and affordable, it also means you are taking a step on the journey towards net zero.

At Just Go! Holidays we are embracing the challenge of reducing our environmental impact and constantly challenge ourselves in this important area. Please keep a lookout for our new initiatives coming over the next few weeks and months and read about our coach fleet promise below.

When you book a holiday with Just Go! Holidays you can rest assured we are doing our bit for the planet!

Our Coach Fleet Promise:

We ensure that all coaches (and drivers) used on our holidays meet the below criteria:

  1. All coaches are modern vehicles that are on average no more than four years old. This ensures they include environmentally conscious features, and it allows us to stay ahead of policies like London’s Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ).
  2. All coaches use environmentally friendly Euro 5 and Euro 6 engines but we are moving towards a total Euro 6 fleet which reduces emissions output by 55% against Euro 5.
  3. All coaches use emission control systems, such as Eminox exhaust systems to cut down on emissions.
  4. All coaches use idle engine cut outs: vehicles are fitted with idler systems that cut off the engine when it has been idling to reduce unnecessary emissions.
  5. All our drivers are experienced drivers who are familiar with fuel-efficient driving techniques reducing emissions and fuel consumption in relation to braking, accelerating and cornering. Coaches are often fitted with telematics devices to improve efficient driving standards.
  6. All coaches are maintained every six weeks to ensure they run smoothly and efficiently. This is more often than the eight-week inspection period mandated by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
  7. Wherever possible we cut out wasted journeys: we actively take steps to avoid running coaches when they are empty so that we are not burning fuel without reason. On longer trips, this can involve leaving the coach at the destination until the date of the return trip or, if this isn’t feasible, we will manage our workload so that we can schedule a journey in the opposite direction.
  8. We constantly monitor new developments by subscribing to industry bodies within the bus and coach industry. This allows us to identify further opportunities to improve, and we can be proactive and supportive of new technologies
