Hotel Rating

Hotels with a JG3 rating tend to be a more formal style of hotel, often part of a hotel chain, or are very-welcoming family-owned properties. Generally, they offer a greater range of facilities and services, and bedrooms tend to be a little more spacious with additional features. Public areas are larger and include lounge seating, bar and restaurant with good quality food served either buffet style or waiter service.

Day 1
We join the coach and travel to our hotel in Wales, our base for the next three nights.

Day 2 – Ffestiniog Railway, Snowdonia & Betws-y-Coed
We travel to the harbour town of Porthmadog to board our train on the Ffestiniog Railway. The train climbs over 700 feet from sea level into the mountains through tranquil pastures, magnificent forests, lakes and waterfalls. Sit back and relax as you enjoy the journey through the breathtaking scenery of Snowdonia National Park to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau.

After enjoying some free time in Blaenau, we enjoy a drive through the spectacular scenery of Snowdonia, calling at the picturesque village of Betws-y-Coed, known as the Gateway to Snowdonia National Park. The backdrop of coniferous forests has earned this area the name ‘Little Switzerland’, creating an enchanting, Alpine atmosphere. There is plenty to explore here, from the 14th-century St Michael’s Church, one of the oldest in Wales, to browsing the independent shops and art galleries which showcase the work of talented Welsh artists.

Day 3 – Llandudno
Today we enjoy time at leisure in the ever-popular resort of Llandudno. This delightful seaside town is famed for its golden beach flanked by two headlands, the Great and Little Ormes, and its wonderful air of traditional Victorian charm. From a stroll along the beautiful coast to exploring the famous Llandudno pier, or perhaps a spot of shopping at the Victoria centre, there is plenty to do here.

Day 4 – Ferry crossing to Dublin
Checking out of our hotel, we travel to Holyhead and catch the ferry to Dublin. We continue on to our hotel in County Wicklow where we stay for three nights.

Day 5 – Dublin
We head back to Dublin and enjoy a guided tour of the Republic’s wonderful capital followed by time at leisure. With its fascinating past, iconic landmarks and plethora of convivial pubs serving up the perfect pint of Guinness, Dublin never fails to charm first-time and frequent visitors alike. There are plenty of historic sites and monuments to see from the oldest, Dublin Castle, to one of the newest, the Spire of Dublin.

Day 6 – Powerscourt Gardens & Wicklow Mountains
The beautiful Powerscourt Gardens are set against the backdrop of the breathtaking Sugarloaf Mountain and boast a lovely blend of striking terraces, fine statuary, ornamental lakes and a wide variety of trees. The gardens were recently voted No.3 in the World’s Top Ten Gardens by National Geographic, and it is easy to see why. Designed from 1731 onwards and stretching over 47 acres, the estate includes formal walled gardens, distinctive Italian and Japanese gardens and the Pepperpot Tower, modelled on a pepper pot from Lord Powerscourt’s dining table!

Afterwards, we enjoy a scenic drive through the Wicklow Mountains National Park which covers over 20,000 hectares of stunning mountain scenery, with vast sweeps of heather-clad moorland, hills, bogland, deep glacial valleys and lakes. The mountains are also home to a variety of wildlife habitats, and the National Park focuses on the conservation of the landscape’s flora and fauna. We travel along the mountain pass of Sally Gap, through the quaint town of Laragh and the small town of Avoca, the filming location of the popular TV series Ballykissangel, before arriving back at our hotel.

Day 7
We check out of our hotel very early to catch the ferry back to Holyhead; therefore a voucher will be provided to enjoy breakfast on board. On arrival in Holyhead, we continue our journey home.

*Please note: due to our early departure, breakfast on the final morning will be taken on the ferry.
