What Makes An André Rieu Concert So Spectacular?

13 August 2021

Here at Just Go! Holidays, we know that many of our lovely customers are huge fans of the wonderful violin maestro, André Rieu. Affectionately known as the ‘Modern King of Waltz’, he’s sold well over 40 million albums, but there is something truly magical about enjoying his music live.

If you haven’t experienced it for yourself, we bet you’re wondering... what makes an André Rieu concert so spectacular? Read on to find out!

The Grandeur

There are few classical musicians quite like André Rieu. Did you know that he actually went bankrupt in

2008 after building three glamorous castles? We’re talking full-size replicas of Vienna’s Schönbru Palace

for his World Stadium Tour: A Romantic Vienna Night

The fairytale sets cost over £30 million and were easily some of the biggest concert stages ever built.

Featuring everything from ice rinks, fountains, a full ballroom of dancers and a golden carriage, can you imagine touring the globe with an entire castle?! (… and you thought you always overpacked!)

His Maastricht concert in December is certainly set to wow audiences once again, where he will recreate a spellbinding Winter Wonderland adorned with snow, twinkling lights and dozens of magical Venetian candelabras.

The Showmanship

André Rieu is particularly well-known for his dramatic performances and flamboyance on stage. You can tell that he’s at his happiest when playing music, and it really comes across during his playful hijinks with the audience and rest of the orchestra.

His trademark quick wit has definitely helped him rack up a huge number of international fans and it’s certainly handy that he can speak six different languages to communicate with everyone during his spectacular concerts.

The Sounds

Famous for his repertoire of romantic waltzes and moving ballads, Rieu has truly created a global revival in waltz music, and is it any wonder why? With a set-list that weaves together everything from classical music, operetta and soul-stirring hymns to Little Richard and Elvis Presley covers, there is simply something for everyone to enjoy.

Watching him and his 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra on the lead up to Christmas is always an unmissable treat. Audiences delight in soaking up the festive atmosphere and singing along to famous Christmas songs and jubilant carols such as Sleigh Ride and Jingle Bells during this truly memorable event.

Upcoming André Rieu Concerts

Complete with his world-famous 1667 Stradivarius violin, (which is worth over £2 million, by the way) André Rieu will be heading out on tour again soon. Join one of our wonderful coach breaks for what is set to be a memorable evening full of fun as we sit back and relax (or perhaps dance in the aisles) to his sensational music.

Don’t miss our four-day André Rieu - Live in Maastricht break in December 2021, or our two-day concert breaks next year, where you can choose between either Liverpool on the 28th April 2022 or Birmingham on the 30th April 2022.
