The Battle of Britain Air Show brings to life Duxford’s finest hour as an important Second World War fighter station, where dozens of lovingly restored and maintained historic aircraft take to the skies in a spectacular homage to the fliers of the day. On this break we also explore the Operations Room from where the aerial campaign was directed and tour the restoration hangar where engineers prepare classic aircraft for flight. With over 200 planes, tanks, and boats, the IWM Duxford provides a fascinating journey through British military history.

Itinerary

Saturday
Arrival

From a morning pickup in your local area we travel by coach to our hotel, arriving in time for dinner and a relaxing overnight stay.

Sunday
Duxford - Battle of Britain Air Show

After breakfast, we head to the Imperial War Museum Duxford, arriving in plenty of time to take a step back in time and immerse ourselves in Duxford’s heritage. Not only serving as the home of the No.19 Squadron, Duxford also has the honour of having the first Spitfires flown in operation serve at the base. We also have time to explore the hangars and learn the stories of the people who lived and worked on this crucial airbase before the Air Show commences in the early afternoon. Marvel at aerial acrobatics, dogfights and a mass Spitfire flypast before we depart for home in the late afternoon.

Accommodation

We’ll stay at a well-appointed hotel. The comfortable rooms are en suite and other facilities include a bar and restaurant. Meals may be buffet style.

Your hotel will be confirmed approximately 3 weeks before departure, therefore we cannot guarantee that the hotel will have a lift and/or ground floor rooms and may be unsuitable for those with limited mobility.

Hotel Rating

Hotels with a JG3 rating tend to be a more formal style of hotel, often part of a hotel chain, or are very-welcoming family-owned properties. Generally, they offer a greater range of facilities and services, and bedrooms tend to be a little more spacious with additional features. Public areas are larger and include lounge seating, bar and restaurant with good quality food served either buffet style or waiter service.

Accommodation in our JG4 category is of an even higher standard, typically offering a wide range of facilities and services. Bedrooms are designed to make your stay the most comfortable possible and the staff provide a service that reflects the detail and quality. You can also expect higher standards of food and beverages.
