Itinerary

From a pickup in your local area, we travel by coach to our hotel in time for dinner and our first night’s stay.

After breakfast, we journey to the West Somerset Railway for an unforgettable ride behind the legendary Flying Scotsman. Steeped in history and engineering brilliance, the Flying Scotsman is one of the world’s most iconic steam locomotives, famed for its record-breaking speed and elegant design.

Our scenic trip takes us along the charming heritage line of the West Somerset Railway, Britain’s longest preserved railway, winding through picturesque countryside and quaint villages. As the powerful locomotive steams ahead, you’ll be transported back to the golden age of travel—an evocative experience for railway enthusiasts and nostalgic travellers alike.

Please note: One leg of the journey will be hauled by the Flying Scotsman, the other by a West Somerset Railway locomotive. Direction may vary.

Following breakfast, we travel to the beautiful city of Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its elegant Georgian architecture, Roman history and timeless charm. Explore the historic streets lined with honey-coloured stone buildings, visit the magnificent Bath Abbey or step back in time at the Roman Baths. Whether you choose to browse the boutique shops, enjoy a riverside stroll or simply soak up the atmosphere in a local café, Bath offers a delightful blend of culture and character. After a lovely few hours in Bath, we rejoin the coach for the journey home.

Accommodation

We’ll stay at a well-appointed hotel (JG3 or JG4 rating). All rooms are en suite and other facilities include a bar and restaurant.

Your hotel will be confirmed approximately 3 weeks before departure, therefore we cannot guarantee that the hotel will have a lift and/or ground floor rooms and may be unsuitable for those with limited mobility.

Hotel Rating

Hotels with a JG3 rating tend to be a more formal style of hotel, often part of a hotel chain, or are very-welcoming family-owned properties. Generally, they offer a greater range of facilities and services, and bedrooms tend to be a little more spacious with additional features. Public areas are larger and include lounge seating, bar and restaurant with good quality food served either buffet style or waiter service.

Accommodation in our JG4 category is of an even higher standard, typically offering a wide range of facilities and services. Bedrooms are designed to make your stay the most comfortable possible and the staff provide a service that reflects the detail and quality. You can also expect higher standards of food and beverages.
