London’s Calling! How to Spend Your Free Time in the Capital…
18 May 2023
If you fancy a summertime coach trip to London, we have plenty of hassle-free options available! With all of these theatre, attraction or leisure getaways offering free time in the Big Smoke, we’ve rounded up the best things to do during the warmer months.
Picnics in Hyde Park
Summer and picnics in Hyde Park are a match made in heaven! Pack a bag full of the essentials (sausage rolls, sandwiches, Scotch eggs and cake, of course!), head to this Grade I listed park and enjoy a quintessentially British pastime. If you’re in need of a little stroll afterwards, a wander down to the Serpentine won't disappoint; you could also dip your toes in the open-water lido to cool down!
Thames River Cruise
If you have a long list of world-famous landmarks that you’d like to tick off, a Thames River Cruise is a brilliant option. Just imagine seeing iconic Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Shakespeare’s Globe, The Shard,
Cutty Sark, the London Eye and more all in one trip, or hopping on and off as you please!
If Buckingham Palace is one of your must-sees, then an open-top bus tour is a fantastic alternative too. We even offer both sightseeing tours as optional excursions on many of our London breaks.
See Wimbledon
If your visit coincides with Wimbledon, then why not seek out screenings of this wonderfully British event? St Katharine Docks is welcoming tennis fans to its fabulous floating pontoon, complete with comfy deckchairs, strawberries and cream – it’s the perfect place to keep up with the action.
Al Fresco Dining
As there’s plenty to do in London, scheduling in rest stops are a must! There are plenty of
al fresco terraces or rooftop bars to discover, offering a wonderful chance to sit down and relax after all that sightseeing. We like the sound of a refreshing glass of Pimms or a fruit cooler in the sunshine, admiring the views and watching the world go by – cheers!
Visit the Museums
Hopefully the sun will be shining during your visit but if not, don’t fret! London has no shortage of fascinating museums, including the Science, the Natural History, the British Maritime and the Imperial War Museum, along with a wonderful array of art galleries.
Shop till you drop!
How about leaving some room in your luggage and hitting the shops? There are so many options, from the High Street giants along Oxford Street and iconic department stores like Harrods, Selfridges and Liberty, to an abundance of exciting markets, including Camden, Brixton, Petticoat Lane and Portobello. As well as being great places for some retail therapy, markets are also the ideal spot to grab a bite to eat and soak up the atmosphere.
Head to The Scoop
From June to August, you can head to The Scoop, a fantastic outdoor amphitheatre located near City Hall. As part of the London Bridge City Summer Festival, you can enjoy a host of free events! Another one of our favourite venues is the open-air theatre in Regent's Park; watching a performance here is a lovely way to spend a summer's afternoon in the city.
