Top Tips for Planning a Group Holiday

07 June 2023

Are you part of a club, association, society or a large group of friends or family looking for something different? Then a tailor-made group holiday could be just the ticket!

We caught up with the experts in our Groups department to bring you some top tips for planning a Group holiday.

Please can you introduce yourself?

Carly: My name’s Carly. I started working for Just Go! Holidays 8 years ago. I’ve worked in several areas of the business, including managing the reservations department. I’ve left, and come back, and had two babies since I started working for the company.

Chrissy: I’m Chrissy and I’ve worked here for 21 years.

What’s a typical day at work like for you?

Carly: Busy! Every day is different with plenty of interesting people, excursions and holiday destinations to work with. I spend a lot of time at my desk talking with clients and creating bespoke tours to suit their group. The other part of my time is spent working with our procurement team, making sure we are getting everything secured for the tours.

Chrissy: Pricing, itineraries, payments, timings, overseeing each group and talking to our lovely clients.

What do you enjoy most about working in the groups department?

Carly: I love helping people. I really enjoy working with the clients and talking to them when the ideas are still in their infancy. Then pinning down the details, helping them throughout the entire process, right to the end when we catch up when they come back. I love hearing about how the holiday went, and then starting it all again for next year's trip.

Chrissy: Contact with clients and that no group tour is the same.

What’s your top tip for arranging a group holiday?

Carly: Be flexible. Have an idea in your mind and use that as inspiration. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself. We’re here to help and want you to enjoy booking the trip.

Chrissy: Come to us with key details such as where you might like to go, the duration, the budget along with any special places you have in mind and let us do the rest!

What’s the most popular destination for groups?

Carly:  At the moment I am noticing a lot of enquiries and bookings coming through for London breaks. There is so much to do there so the tours can be really varied even though they are going to the same place.

Chrissy: Bournemouth, Torquay and lots of other seaside resorts are always popular. Tailor-made tours are very much on the increase too.

What are the benefits of booking a group holiday with us?

Carly: We offer great-value breaks, and free places for the group organiser. We try to lighten the load as much as possible for the group leader and are always happy to help. Plus, we’re a very friendly team!

Chrissy: We help take away the stress from holiday planning, we offer attractive discounts and can arrange a bespoke pickup point for the group so they’re not travelling around the houses or sharing the coach with people they don’t know. We can also ensure they have the maxiumum flexibility with their itinerary. By having contact with one Group expert helps streamline the arrangements and take the pressure off the customer.

Which of our breaks would you most like to go on yourself?

Carly: I love France, so any tours there would be an easy choice for me.

Chrissy: RHS Tatton Park Flower Show & Bridgewater Gardens.

How far in advance should groups book?

Carly: The further out you book, the more choice you have. We do take late bookings and can turn the booking process around quickly, but I’d suggest giving yourself at least four months to organise a group tour.

Chrissy: Ideally four months, although many of our groups do book a year in advance too.

What’s your all-time favourite holiday destination?

Carly: France! But I do love long haul holidays, some of my favourite holidays have been to Goa, New Zealand, and a rather hectic recent big birthday holiday to Las Vegas.

Chrissy: Dartmouth.

How do you like to spend time outside of the office?

Carly:  Time out of the office for me is spent with my two children. I have a three-year-old son and my daughter has just turned one. So, I’ll be doing something like feeding ducks in the park or in the kitchen finding new ways to disguise vegetables.
