Say Cheese! Picturesque Coach Breaks With The Best Photo Opportunities

10 July 2023

Who else loves returning home from a getaway and scrolling through their holiday snaps? Whether you like sharing them on social media or printing them out and treasuring them in a photo album, they’re a great way of capturing wonderful memories that will last a lifetime.

With that in mind, we have put together our top picks for coach breaks with the very best photo opportunities to help inspire your next breakaway.

Newquay, Cornish Ports & Bodmin Jail

Classic Cornwall dishes up a huge selection of photo opportunities. From the striking silhouette of the tidal island St Michael’s Mount, to the pretty fisher cottages that tumble through the streets of St Ives, there’s a wealth of postcard-worthy shots to take. Our Newquay, Cornish Ports & Bodmin Jail offers the chance to see the ancient prison perched on the brooding moors, along with Padstow and Falmouth. You may even be lucky enough to spot a tall ship or two in seafaring Charlestown!

Northumberland, Hadrian’s Wall, Holy Island & Alnwick Castle

Northumberland is pure catnip for budding photographers! Just think, panoramic shots of Hadrian’s Wall meandering through rugged countryside, Alnwick Castle, which is no stranger to the camera, having provided the backdrop for scenes in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey along with the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, which is regularly cut off from the mainland during high tide. Very dramatic by all accounts!

The West Country, Beautiful Bath & West Somerset Railway

Trains tootling along the West Somerset Railway, the curvaceous crescents and pretty bridges that populate bustling Bath and an optional excursion to Shafetsbury; made famous by the 1970s Hovis advert, which was filmed on the beautifully cobbled Gold Hill. Cameras at the ready for this affordable five-day break

Steaming Through the Cotswolds & Cruising the River Avon

Gorgeous Cotswold villages including Bourton-on-the-Water with its lovely footbridges, Shakespeare’s Birthplace, a cruise along the River Avon and a nostalgic journey on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway. It’s hard to find a coach holiday that’s more ready for its close up than our Steaming Through the Cotswolds & Cruising the River Avon adventure.

Bristol International Balloon Fiesta

Dozens of colourful hot air balloons ascending en masse, along with a special night glow feature. The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is an event that everyone should experience at least once. Although great for taking holiday photos, we also recommend putting your phone or camera down for a while and soaking up this magical spectacle without distractions.

Llandudno & the Mountain Railway

Snowdon Summit’s visitor centre, Hafod Eryri, finally reopened earlier this summer so we’re extra excited about this three-day Llandudno break. The glorious views from the top of the highest mountain in Wales are definitely the highlight, but there are also plenty of other great photo opportunities during the journey as we pass the Ceunant Mawr waterfall cascading into the gorge below. We also have free time to explore the picturesque village of Betws-y-Coed afterwards.

Christmas Time at Downton Abbey & Oxford’s Festive Market

Highclere Castle makes for a stunning photo backdrop during every season, but we think it’s particularly magical during the lead up to Christmas, especially if we’re lucky enough to see a dusting of snow over the castle’s grounds again this year! Don’t miss the roaring open fires, enormous Christmas tree, twinkling lights and elegant decorations including fresh holly from the gardens, as the opulent interiors are transformed for the festive season.

Blackpool Illuminations Twixmas Special

Last but not least is our Blackpool Illuminations Twixmas Special breakaway. It’s the perfect way to (literally!) brighten up those lazy days between Christmas and New Year. Don’t forget to capture the moment and take some photos during our special Blackpool Illuminations evening drive, where you can get up close to the famous lightshow from the warmth of the coach.
