December weather in Benidorm and Calpe
The weather in Benidorm and Calpe during Christmas is mild and pleasant. While the UK will be feeling the winter chill, rain and may be even snow, the east coast of Spain offers a warmer and sunnier climate. Grab your summerwear because you can expect to enjoy daily high temperatures of around 16-20ºC. This allows you to enjoy outdoor activities, such as sunbathing on the beach, or around the pool, or exploring what both destinations have to offer without the need for heavy winter clothing. The evenings in both Calpe and Benidorm can be on the cooler side of things, dipping under 10ºC. Be sure to pack a light jacket or jumper in your suitcase.
Getting into the festive spirit
Benidorm is beautifully decorated with Christmas lights, creating a magical and festive atmosphere. You’ll be able to explore traditional Christmas markets, complete with stalls filled with Christmas gifts, and handcrafted items. The sounds of Spanish Christmas carols fill the streets, and delicious, sweet treats such as marzipan, powdered almond tarts known as ‘polvorones’, and the almond-based nougat, Turrón, are enjoyed by market goers. Don’t forget to check out the infamous nativity scenes, or ‘Belenes Navidad’ dotted around the streets, and the Christmas concerts that will be happening at venues around the city. Just up the coast in Calpe you’ll see much of the same, making it an equally festive destination to spend the Christmas period.
You won’t be short of things to do and see, and what’s even better is you’ll be able to enjoy it all in mild and sunny weather. You’ll also be surrounded by like-minded people also escaping the British weather for the festive season!
