The Sights of a Victorian Christmas in London
04 August 2020
What Is A Victorian London Christmas?
You’ll be forgiven for assuming that Victorian London was all about Scrooge traipsing around with his trio of ghostly pals! It’s a little-known fact that we actually owe many of our popular yuletide traditions to the Victorians. From Christmas cards, carols, gift giving and decorating trees, these customs all link back to Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert, who experienced similar celebrations during his childhood in Germany.
With that in mind, we can’t think of a better way to get in the Christmas spirit than with a festive coach trip to London to experience some real magic. We’ll discover a whole host of historical highlights and see some of our capital’s best-loved landmarks.
What Can I Expect To See?
Our short break has something for everyone, from stunning architecture and fascinating museums, to the magic of London’s Theatreland.
St Paul’s Cathedral, all wrapped up for Christmas, is a stunning sight to behold and we get up close to discover the enormous domed interiors and the crypt with its tombs of historical figures. We also have the chance to wander around the cosy home of literary giant Charles Dickens, which provides a look back at how the festive season was celebrated, complete with authentic Victorian decorations.
Our break wouldn’t be complete without heading into the West End; truly the jewel in London’s festive crown! Imagine strolling through the glittering Covent Garden, with its giant 55-foot Christmas tree sitting smugly on the cobblestones in the historic piazza. We can start our Christmas shopping or just soak up the festive atmosphere before a tour of the iconic Royal Opera House and a spellbinding West End theatre performance.
What’s Included With The Break?
Taking care of everything so you can focus on enjoying a well-deserved break, our tour includes 3 nights at the 4-star Copthorne Hotel at Chelsea FC with breakfast plus 2 dinners, porterage, welcome drink, coach transfers to and from your excursions, visits to St Paul’s Cathedral, Charles Dickens Museum, Foundling Museum, Covent Garden & Somerset House, a backstage tour of the Royal Opera House and a ticket to an evening performance of a popular West End show. We will also be joined by a knowledgeable Tour Manager throughout.
