Our Favourite Rail Experiences

21 September 2020

‘‘I hear the train a comin', it's rollin' 'round the bend’’ …. we bet Johnny Cash would have been on board with our fantastic range of fabulous train-themed breaks!

From the Isle of Wight and Norfolk to North Wales, we’ve got so many fabulous rail experiences that it’s hard to keep track. To help you decide, read on to find out all about our top three in the UK for 2021. Full steam ahead!

Isle Of Wight Royals & Rails

All aboard! The first break arriving on the platform is the stunning Isle of Wight. With return coach travel, ferry crossings and accommodation included, one of the highlights of this four-night getaway is the heritage train journey on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Imagine being tucked up inside one of the cosy (and brilliantly restored) old-fashioned compartments, as the train tootles through the island's lovely countryside. With the conductor dressed in traditional uniform, you’ll think you’ve stepped back in time as you spy quaint rural stations and sleepy villages.

Afterwards, there is plenty more to explore, and our trip wouldn’t be complete without paying a visit to Osborne House; Queen Victoria’s one-time residence on the island.

Little Trains of Norfolk & the Mississippi Paddle Steamer

Next up in our shiny train set collection is the Little Trains Of Norfolk. Staying in Great Yarmouth with dinner & breakfast included, we’re perfectly positioned to explore Norfolk with its quaint seaside towns and the stunning landscape of the Norfolk Broads.

Not only will we discover the natural beauty of its waterways on the Mississippi Paddle Steamer Cruise, but we also get the chance to experience both the heritage North Norfolk Railway and the Bure Valley Railway; Norfolk’s longest narrow gauge railway. Both journeys promise wonderfully scenic views and the nostalgic atmosphere of a bygone era.

Great Little Trains of North Wales & Portmeirion

Sleepy river valleys, stunning mountain passes and endlessly scenic panoramas - are we on the right track? If so then our trip to North Wales is one for you. You’ll be utterly spoilt for choice on this five day break away; not only will we explore Llandudno and the unique, Italianate village of Portmeirion, but we’ve lined up excursions on three vintage railways!

From the Welsh Highland Railway with its dreamscape Snowdonia scenery and the Great Orme Tramway - Britain’s only cable-hauled public road tramway - we get to travel in original, lovingly-restored Victorian tramcars! To top off our break, we catch the Ffestiniog Railway to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau passing magical waterfalls along the way.

Ready to feel like you’ve been shrunken down and popped into a child’s Thomas the Tank Engine toy box? All of our rail experiences are perfect for lifelong trainspotters and locomotive learners alike, so be sure to choo-choose your favourite from our full collection.
