Where To Go For A 5-Day Holiday
20 November 2020
Do you fancy really unwinding? We don’t mean grabbing a quick weekend away only to race back for your Sunday evening screening of Countryfile. We’re talking about UK breaks that are slightly further afield. Something different from the norm where you’ll actually unpack at the hotel because you’re there long enough, and you might even bring home a little souvenir. We’re referring to the perfect 5 day UK breaks.
Perfect 5 Day UK Breaks
Giving you the opportunity to truly relax and discover a new destination with ample time for our huge range of excursions, we’ve collated some of our top picks for 2021. Usually taking place between April and October, we’ll take care of everything from hotel accommodation to return coach travel, so you’ll have more time for some well-deserved R&R.
Cornwall
Ah, Cornwall! A county of contrasts, you could be marveling at the almost other-worldly landscapes and slumbering granite hills on the misty Bodmin Moor in the morning and be cushioned in a cosy deckchair outside St Ives’ famous Sloop Inn with half a shandy by lunchtime.
With cinematic scenery at every turn, it’s no wonder Poldark was always loitering around in his famous Tricorn hat! If you fancy looking brooding against a wave-crashing backdrop too, then be sure to check out our Newquay, Eden Project & Poldark's Cornwall five day break. Packed with contrasting Cornish sights, there’s enough time to take in everything from the Eden Project to Padstow and Charlestown, along with an additional optional excursion to both Penzance and St Ives.
Our top souvenir pick? A packet of homemade clotted cream fudge or a Poldark cushion with Aiden Turner’s face printed on it. (Yes, they really do exist!)
Durham
In-keeping with our mysterious-silhouette-of-a-figure-on-a-clifftop theme, our Historic Durham, Beamish & Captain Cook’s Whitby five-day getaway offers the very best of the Northeast. The windswept headland of Whitby with its ruined abbey dishes up enough Gothic ambiance to sate even Dracula’s appetite, and further inland, Durham doesn’t disappoint with its skyline speckled with the towering castle and Romanesque cathedral.
Step back in time with a wander around the pockets of winding cobbled lanes, historic buildings and lovely river walks in Durham, and if that’s not enough to whet your heritage-whistle, then our included excursion to Beamish Living Museum will. Crammed with quaint trams and costumed-characters, time stands still for us to discover the story of industrial life in the Northeast during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Our top souvenir pick? Vampire goblet from Whitby Abbey, or a bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk in the original 1950s packaging from Beamish Living Museum.
York
York, York, York, where do we begin? A cobweb of Medieval lanes tucked up inside its big, old city-wall blanket, this charming city serves up a huge slice of olde-worlde charm. Half-timbered shop fronts overhang as if leaning forward to squeeze into your holiday pics, and postcard racks burst with the city’s famous sights; from the striking York Minster to the Jorvic Viking Centre. Be sure to have a mooch through The Shambles and pop into one of the many quaint tea rooms.
If you fancy exploring more of Yorkshire itself, then our five-day Historic York & the Yorkshire Moors & Dales coach holiday is for you. Think windswept and brooding moorlands bestrewn with historic market towns, old-fashioned breweries and even the odd cheese creamery! Packed with an array of fantastic excursions including a guided tour of Black Sheep Brewery, a heritage train journey on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and an interactive tour of Wensleydale Creamery, this break is not to be missed.
Our top souvenir pick? A few mouth-watering morsels from the Wensleydale Creamery or a gift box of fruity Fat Rascal scones from the famous Betty’s Tea Rooms in York.
Fabulous five-day UK coach breaks are our bread and butter, and if you fancy a few more options - from the Isle of Wight, Eastbourne, North Wales, Scarborough, Devon, The Lakes and more - be sure to check out our full selection of 5 day breaks here.
