This is a lovely chance to take in the sleepy beauty of the mid-Devon countryside on one of the last horse-drawn boats of its kind. During our journey, we listen to tales, anecdotes and historical facts about the Grand Western Canal. We also take some free time to explore Tiverton, a bustling market town.
Ilfracombe (Two hours)
We spend two hours in picturesque Ilfracombe to enjoy the town’s dramatic sea views, pretty pastel cottages and historic harbour, where the artist Damien Hurst’s statue Verity stands tall.
Optional Excursion
Barnstaple & Woolacombe - £13pp (half day)
On our optional excursion we head first to Barnstaple, the capital of north Devon. The town features many fine buildings and attractive streets and is also home to the historic Barnstaple Pannier Market which offers a range of produce, arts and crafts, antiques and collectables.
Afterwards we visit Woolacombe, famed for its three miles of golden sands and regularly recognised as one of the top ten beaches in the world. Blow away the cobwebs with a bracing stroll along the beach, browse the shops or relax in one of the pubs or cafés.
