Experience Christmas in the Stunning Alpine Landscapes of Austria
22nd December
Ferry to Calais and overnight stay in France.
23rd December
Continue on to our hotel in the Salzkammergut area of Austria, arriving in time for dinner.
Christmas Eve – Salzburg
We head to the lovely city of Salzburg, where we have time to explore some of the sights such as the beautifully-preserved Old Town overlooked by the medieval Hohensalzburg Castle. On our return to the hotel in the afternoon, we enjoy Austrian Christmas cookies and mulled wine followed by a traditional Austrian Christmas dinner in the evening.
Christmas Day
Christmas Day is a lovely day of leisure and celebration at our hotel, with Christmas lunch and a three-course dinner included.
Boxing Day – Scenic Lake District tour & horse-drawn sleigh ride
Today we enjoy a scenic tour of the magnificent natural landscapes of Austria’s Lake District, known as Salzkammergut. This beautiful Alpine winter wonderland boasts serene lakes, spectacular snow-covered mountains and sparkling forests interspersed with quaint villages. Later, we get into the spirit of Austrian life with a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the countryside.
27th December – Berchtesgaden & Königssee
We cross the border into Germany to the charming mountain town of Berchtesgaden nestled in a valley in the Bavarian Alps. The narrow winding streets are lined with pretty pastel-coloured houses and craft and gift shops. We continue on to Königssee, the deepest lake in the Alps renowned for its crystal clear waters. The lake is similar to a fjord, surrounded by towering mountains rising up to 2,700m tall.
28th December
Travel to our overnight hotel in France, with a light evening meal included.
29th December
Continue on to Calais for our return ferry home.
