The Stunning Isles of Scilly

Quiet, beautiful and unspoilt, the Isles of Scilly lie just off the coast of Cornwall but feel like a world away from the mainland. On this magical break we explore the largest island of this charming archipelago, St Mary’s, which has a fascinating history stretching back to the Bronze Age. From discovering the hidden treasures and incredible historic sites to enjoying the spectacular beaches, there is plenty to do here – it’s no wonder that Scilly is beloved by William and Kate, Prince and Princess of Wales! We also venture to Tresco and experience its sub-tropical splendour with a visit to the island’s world-famous gardens.

Selected Hotel in Cornwall (JG3 rating)

At the beginning and end of our tour, we stay at a well-appointed hotel in Cornwall.

Hotel Rating

Hotels with a JG3 rating tend to be a more formal style of hotel, often part of a hotel chain, or are very-welcoming family-owned properties. Generally, they offer a greater range of facilities and services, and bedrooms tend to be a little more spacious with additional features. Public areas are larger and include lounge seating, bar and restaurant with good quality food served either buffet style or waiter service.

Day 1

After joining the coach, we journey to Cornwall, where we stay overnight.

Day 2 – Ferry to the Isles of Scilly

We travel to Penzance to catch the ferry to St Mary’s. Later, we check in to the Bell Rock Hotel, our base for the next four nights.

Day 3 – Coach tour of St Mary’s

This morning we enjoy a short coach tour which introduces us to the beautiful island of St Mary’s and helps us get our bearings. Sit back and relax whilst we step back in time and explore the largest island with its own beautiful beach, nature reserve and Old Town Church along with shops, bars and cafés.

Day 4 – Day at leisure

Today we enjoy time at leisure in St Mary’s. Hugh Town is the central hub of the island with shops, cafés, galleries, restaurants and pubs as well as a wonderful museum. There are also three lovely beaches close by, or how about taking a boat to one of the beautiful neighbouring islands?

Day 5 – Tresco Abbey Garden

We catch the ferry across to Tresco, the second largest of the islands. Here we explore the glorious Tresco Abbey Garden, a horticultural paradise where some 20,000 exotic species from 80 countries thrive in the sub-tropical climate. Originally established as a private garden in the 19th century by island owner Augustus Smith, the diversity of plant life found within the garden is as extraordinary as it is unique.

Day 6 – St Mary’s & ferry back to Penzance

This morning we have some more time at leisure in St Mary’s before catching an afternoon ferry back to Penzance. We then stay in Cornwall overnight.

Day 7

After checking out of our hotel we board the coach for our return journey home.

Please note: you will need a reasonable degree of mobility to keep up with the pace of the tour; you may encounter steep or rough terrain and have stairs to climb. As a general guideline, we recommend that you are comfortable to stroll for 20-30 minutes at a time.
Bell Rock Hotel: No lift - Steps to entrance - Steps to bedrooms - No ground floor rooms.
